Entry & Security
Air Transportation
From the West Coast of the United States, a direct flight to New Zealand takes approximately 12 hours. These direct flights fly into Auckland International Airport in New Zealand's North Island.
Entry Requirements
All visitors to New Zealand must carry a passport that is valid for at least three months beyond the date of departure from the country. Visa's are not required by US passport holders for a stay of less than three months. To check whether holders of other passports require a Visa to enter New Zealand, check online at www.immigration.govt.nz
Check-in Procedures, Airport Security Requirements
and Baggage Restrictions
Due to increased security requirements on all flights operating to, through and from the USA, we recommended at least 3 hours is allowed to complete check-in procedures at Auckland International Airport.
For domestic New Zealand flights, guests are required to be checked in 30 minutes before the flights departure. For groups, we recommend at least an hour is allowed for domestic check in procedures.
If guests are connecting to an international flight, check in is to take place at least one hour prior to the departure of the domestic flight. For groups connecting to an international flight, we recommend at least 90 minutes is allowed for check in procedures. Please remember to carry proof of identity with you as you will be required to present this at check-in.
A passport, driver's licence, credit card or birth certificate are suitable forms of ID. Remember your ticket and passport, ensure you have all applicable visas and please note that many airports levy a departure tax on all passengers on international flights.
New Zealand has a safety restriction on bag weight. No incoming or outgoing bag may weigh more than 23kg (50lbs) each. Each passenger is allowed to bring or take with them two pieces of luggage (ie. a total of 46kg or 100lbs). For domestic flights (ie. travel within New Zealand), passengers are allowed to carry luggage weighing no more than 20kg (44lbs). This can be a problem for international travellers, as they often bring their limit of 100lbs with them - and then are informed that they must reduce this to 44lbs to be allowed to travel on domestic flights.
